March Learning

This month I am focusing on weather, Spring, St. Patrick's Day, potatoes and towards the end of March I will do some rabbit/egg things. I have more St. Patrick's and potato stuff to post the end of this week!
Tracing weather words.

Spelling cvc words

This goes with the picture cards below.

Popcorn word scramble

Nonsense / Real words

Challenging for some!

My student teacher led this center.

I got this pattern from www.makinglearningfun.com but I came up with the sentence mix/fix.

color word scramble

Kids roll 2 dot dice and write the two digit number.

One of our centers this week was quiet reading with a friend. I also put out a basket of stuffed animals. The kids loved having something to cuddle with while they read.

4 letter spelling.

This response sheet came from www.growingkinders.com
I think I got it last year!

Leprechaun write the room.

Word scramble with popcorn words written on potatoes!!

Roll 2 dice. Put one dice in each potato, add them together, write the answer. Once I modeled this about 3 times the kids were fine to do it independently!

Spring Break!!

I probably won't be posting anything for the next week or two. Below are the latest happenings in our classroom. Just the usual....writing, painting, games, centers, etc. Friday was our Spring Party and the kids were out of control had fun but whew I'm ready for a week off!

I printed these off of makinglearningfun.com and had the kids use wikki stix to make letters. Probably more for the beginning of the year but I recently made them and had them laminated so I threw it in a center.

Writing Around the Room

This inspiration came from Mrs. Lee. I made monster cards with a CVC  word, had the kids write the word in the box then color the monster to match the card.

I have this alphabet puzzle my kids FIGHT over the pieces. So funny each year different classes argue over different things. Last year it was the penguin figurines in my arctic animal unit!

Flower activity/writing and I had the kids put their pictures in the center of the flowers.

One of my little sweeties brought in daffodils each day this week!

I got these food posters on sale last year at a teacher's store. I thought I would cut them up and do something with them but the pictures are so connected I really can't cut them apart. So I had the kids create a meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were able to illustrate and copy the word.

Kite activity.

Working with Words. We use hi-lighters to hi-light the spelling pattern then provided our own rhyming word.

After we read this story I printed off some flower clip art pictures and we did some watercolor painting.

Each year our school has a Volunteer Appreciation Brunch and each class makes a little note or sign or poster to display at the brunch. I am able to reuse this poster each year. I printed out and laminated several DJ Inkers Kid's Fun All Year clip art and tape them to a posterboard and write the names of the students next to the pictures. Very easy and cute!

Lion/Lamb/Dr.Seuss

We brainstormed lion/lamb weather. Each day of the month we are graphing if it is a lion or lamb day.
Roll 2 dice, write the double digit number on the lamb.
From makinglearningfun.com and I added the writing part where we brainstormed rhyming words.
Got this clip art from Mrs. Lee. Each bear dentist had a specific number of teeth and the kids had to x out boxes for each bear sheet.
Roll 3 dice and put them in order, smallest, middle, largest numeral
Rhyming pairs
After reading the ABC book by Dr. Seuss we did our own page for a class book. We used picture dictionaries to help with words.
I used all green Easter eggs and put a cut up high frequency word in each. The kids had to 'crack' the egg, fix the word then write.
Illustrating/labeling March words.
The kids found their favorite Dr. Seuss character and made a model out of play doh then drew a picture of what they  sculpted. Several of the kids wrote, too.
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish math with colored goldfish crackers.
The kids had a choice with this center. They could find crazy Dr. Seuss characters and illustrate OR find nonsense words and write them.
My version of Green Eggs and Ham. NOT HEALTHY. Two pink wafer cookies for ham, a vanilla wafer covered in white frosting and a green skittle for the yolk.
