St. Patrick's/Potato Fun

I made this game board. The kids rolled a dice and used a potato eraser to move that many spaces. After landing on a picture they recorded on their data sheet. I got the potato (sweet and regular potato) erasers at the teacher's store last year.

Mashed Potato Math

Cute story, I've never read before.

Kids picked a potato and wrote the word on the recording sheet.

March Learning

This month I am focusing on weather, Spring, St. Patrick's Day, potatoes and towards the end of March I will do some rabbit/egg things. I have more St. Patrick's and potato stuff to post the end of this week!

Popcorn word scramble

Nonsense / Real words

Challenging for some!

My student teacher led this center.

I got this pattern from www.makinglearningfun.com but I came up with the sentence mix/fix.

color word scramble

Kids roll 2 dot dice and write the two digit number.

One of our centers this week was quiet reading with a friend. I also put out a basket of stuffed animals. The kids loved having something to cuddle with while they read.

4 letter spelling.

This response sheet came from www.growingkinders.com
I think I got it last year!

Leprechaun write the room.

Word scramble with popcorn words written on potatoes!!

Roll 2 dice. Put one dice in each potato, add them together, write the answer. Once I modeled this about 3 times the kids were fine to do it independently!

St. Patrick's Day and Potatoes

This is one of my all time favorite books by Tomie!

Making our own Mr. Potato head and practicing writing color words.

Playing with and drawing Potato Heads

Weighing, comparing, observing different potatoes.

We used this to record our potato graph data.

I got this idea from Mrs. Lee! Thanks for the printables.

I laminated these color word cards and made them into booklets so the kids could practice writing their color words.

Making a food list at the kitchen center.

Color words and learning about rainbows.

I just got this book this year. Very cute!!

Extension writing activity

On Monday I couldn't find my special pointer, on Tuesday the dry erase board eraser was missing, on Wednesday there was spilled cereal on the table and on Thursday there were footprints on our tables!

But he didn't get our cookies!!

Coloring/labeling a leprechaun

I typed up simple sentences and had the kids cut them into strips and  put them in this 'fry' box. For the more advanced readers/writers, I gave them blank strips of yellow paper and had them write their own sentences.

Roll 3 dice, add the dots together, write the number.

As a cooperative group project I had the kids in groups of 3 or 4 and they were assigned a different color of the rainbow. They had to find pictures from magazines. They did a GREAT job and had fun. I purposely paired them with kids they don't usually work with.
